Welcome

Hi!

Some quick facts about me:

  • I am 43 years old, happily married and have four children.
  • I am a software engineer.
  • I have struggled with my weight since I was 4 years old.
  • I have a history of yo-yo dieting. For many years, I would follow a diet, lose weight successfully, and then regain the lost weight (and more) before repeating the cycle.
  • The heaviest I have known myself to weigh is 165kg (364lbs).
  • Over 34 months, from 7 February 2017 to 10 December 2019, I lost 80kg (176lbs) by following the Weigh-Less program. I did not have weight loss surgery, nor did I use any injections, pills, or shakes.
  • At the time I reached my goal weight on 10 December 2019, I was weighing myself at least three times a day, every day. I needed to free myself from this obsession with dieting and the nearly three years of meticulously monitoring my weight.
  • I am proud to say that I have not weighed myself since the end of 2021, which coincided with my becoming a member of Run Zone running club.
  • Although I don’t weigh myself, I still watch what I eat and try to make the best choices. However, I don’t diet — I don’t follow any specific eating plan.
  • I published my first book, Eighty Kilos of Shame, at the end of 2021. This book details the process I followed to free myself from the emotional weight I had carried for most of my life.
  • I started running at the end of 2018. I am not fast, but I try my best and consistently show up for my sessions.
  • I ran my first marathon (42.2 km) in October 2022 and published my second book, My First Marathon Training, at the start of 2023.
  • If all goes to plan, I will be running my third marathon in October 2024.
  • Once a year, usually in November, I present my Kopskuif online course.
  • I am coached by Michelle Mee. I see the running club and my friends at MCM as my second family
